Privacy

Taylored Hypnotherapy handles your personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and the Data Protection Act 2018. The data controller is Morven Taylor-Slater — see contact details.

What we collect

Personal information — name, email, phone number, address, date of birth, emergency contact, and payment details (we do not store card numbers).

Health data — presenting concern, relevant medical history, current medications, GP details, mental health history, session notes, and progress records. This is special category data under UK GDPR.

Newsletter subscribers — email address only, held in our own self-hosted mailing-list system and delivered through our email provider. We never share it with third parties for marketing. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.

Why we use it

  • Delivering solution-focused hypnotherapy and managing your care
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Processing payments and issuing receipts
  • Meeting professional body requirements (NCH, AfSFH)
  • Complying with legal and regulatory obligations

Lawful basis

  • Explicit consent for health data (Article 9(2)(a) UK GDPR), obtained before your first session
  • Contract for appointment scheduling, session delivery, and payments (Article 6(1)(b))
  • Legal obligation for tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements (Article 6(1)(c))
  • Legitimate interests for record security and service communication (Article 6(1)(f))

Where we rely on legitimate interests, our purpose is to respond to your enquiry, provide and improve a safe hypnotherapy service, and keep accurate records; processing is necessary because we cannot answer you, deliver care, or meet our professional obligations without it; and we have balanced this against your rights and freedoms — we use only the data we need, keep it secure, and you can object at any time. Where we rely on a recognised legitimate interest under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (for example, disclosure to a public-safety body where there is a serious risk of harm), the balancing test does not apply to that specific disclosure.

Data sharing

We do not sell or trade your data. We may share information only:

  • With your GP or healthcare provider, with your explicit consent
  • For safeguarding — if there is serious risk of harm to you or others
  • Under court order or legal obligation
  • During clinical supervision (anonymised where possible)

Retention

  • Client records: 8 years after your last session (professional body guidelines)
  • Financial records: 6 years (HMRC requirement)
  • Enquiries (no treatment): deleted within 12 months
  • Newsletter: deleted within 30 days of unsubscribing

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to processing. You can withdraw consent at any time. Contact morven@tayloredhypnotherapy.com.

Subject access requests

You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you. We will make reasonable and proportionate searches to find it and respond within the statutory timeframe (normally one month). If a request is complex we may extend this and will tell you why.

Your right to complain

If you are unhappy with how we have used your personal data, please complain to us first. You can use our data complaints form, email morven@tayloredhypnotherapy.com, or write to us by post. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and keep you informed of progress and the outcome. If you remain dissatisfied, you can escalate to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Terms of Service

By booking or attending a session, you agree to these terms.

About hypnotherapy

Solution-focused hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy, not a substitute for medical treatment or psychiatric care. It does not involve diagnosis. Continue any existing treatment plan from your GP or consultant.

No specific outcome is guaranteed. A typical course is 4–8 sessions. Progress depends on individual circumstances and engagement with the process.

Eligibility

  • Under 13: hypnotherapy is generally not suitable
  • 13–15: written parental consent and attendance at initial consultation required
  • 16+: may consent independently

You must disclose your full medical history. Morven may decline or discontinue treatment if, in her professional judgement, hypnotherapy is not appropriate.

Booking and cancellation

A free initial consultation is available, without obligation.

  • 48+ hours notice: full refund or reschedule
  • 24–48 hours: 50% cancellation fee
  • Under 24 hours or no-show: full fee payable

If Morven cancels, you will be offered an alternative time or full refund.

Consent and confidentiality

You remain in control at all times during hypnosis and can end any session. Before treatment, you will sign a consent form acknowledging this and agreeing to the processing of your health data.

Sessions are strictly confidential, except where disclosure is required for safeguarding, court orders, clinical supervision (anonymised), or professional body investigations.

Online sessions

You are responsible for a stable internet connection and a quiet, private space. Sessions must not be recorded without written consent from both parties. The same fees and cancellation terms apply.

Liability

Taylored Hypnotherapy’s total liability shall not exceed the fees paid for the relevant course of treatment. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing excludes liability for negligence, fraud, or anything that cannot be excluded by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
